How much it costs to keep a website in Bolivia each year: domain, hosting, SSL and email
Updated on
Keeping a website online comes down to four fixed costs that repeat every year: the domain, the hosting, the SSL certificate and email on your own domain. Here we take them one by one, using real QuimeraCloud prices (first year and renewal) and the official NIC Bolivia rate for .bo and .com.bo domains. Design and development are not included: they are a separate cost that changes with what you need.
The short version: what you pay each year
- Domain: US$20 the first year for a .com with us and US$25 a year from the second, or Bs 280 a year for a .com.bo and Bs 980 for a .bo at NIC Bolivia (prices in bolivianos, Bs).
- Hosting: US$47.89 the first year on the Premium plan paid annually, and US$131.88 from the second year.
- SSL: included in every plan, at no extra cost.
- Email on your domain: included in the plan, within each plan’s limit.
With a .com domain and the Premium plan, year one adds up to US$67.89. The part to watch is year two: hosting goes from US$47.89 to US$131.88 and the .com from US$20 to US$25. With a .com and Premium, year two adds up to US$156.88 (US$131.88 hosting + US$25 .com renewal), so put it in your budget from day one.
1. Domain: .com versus .bo and .com.bo
The domain is your website’s address (for example, yourcompany.com). It is registered for a period and has to be renewed to keep using it. You have two routes, with different prices and different currencies.
With QuimeraCloud: .com, .net and .org
| Extension | Registration, first year | Annual renewal |
|---|---|---|
| .com | US$20 | US$25 |
| .net | US$20 | US$25 |
| .org | US$16 | US$20 |
A new domain is registered automatically once your payment is confirmed. You pay the registration price the first year and the renewal price every year from the second. More on the domains page. If you already own a domain elsewhere, you do not need to buy another: you connect it by changing its nameservers to ns1.quimeracloud.com and ns2.quimeracloud.com, and it keeps renewing where you registered it.
With NIC Bolivia: .bo and .com.bo
NIC Bolivia is the body that registers .bo domains (the country domain of Bolivia). QuimeraCloud does not sell .bo domains, so you register them directly at nic.bo, where you first create a user account. This is the rate NIC Bolivia published on its website on November 2, 2026, in bolivianos and labeled “annual price”:
| Domain type | Examples | Annual rate |
|---|---|---|
| Second level | .bo | Bs 980 |
| Third level | .com.bo, .org.bo, .net.bo, .tv.bo, .web.bo | Bs 280 |
| Social interest | .info.bo, .blog.bo and others | Bs 55 |
Three useful details about that system:
- The rates page does not say whether the amount includes taxes. NIC issues an electronic invoice, so confirm the final total when you pay.
- A .bo domain does not include hosting or email: NIC Bolivia only manages the name.
- For a .bo or .com.bo to open your site, you must enter your hosting’s DNS servers in NIC’s system (the servers that answer where the site lives, like an address book). With QuimeraCloud they are:
ns1.quimeracloud.com
ns2.quimeracloud.com
The full steps are in the guide on how to point a .com or .bo domain to your hosting.
We do not convert NIC’s rates to dollars, or our prices to bolivianos: the exchange rate varies. Do the math with the exchange rate you actually use to pay.
.com or .com.bo? Beyond price, it is a brand decision: a .com.bo makes it clear you are in Bolivia, and a .com works well if your audience is also outside the country.
2. Hosting: the cost that changes most between year one and year two
Hosting is the server where your website lives. At QuimeraCloud the launch price is quoted per month and applies the first year when you pay annually; after that the plan renews at its renewal price.
| Plan | Year one (paid annually) | Year-one total | Annual renewal | Month to month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium | US$3.99/mo | US$47.89 | US$131.88 (US$10.99/mo) | US$11.99/mo |
| Unlimited | US$4.99/mo | US$59.88 | US$203.88 (US$16.99/mo) | US$18.99/mo |
| Cloud Startup | US$9.99/mo | US$119.89 | US$311.88 (US$25.99/mo) | US$27.99/mo |
Year-one totals are the monthly price times 12. Here is what each plan includes (RAM and cores are the memory and processing capacity of your account, and SSH is command-line access to the server):
- Premium: 3 sites, 20 GB SSD, 2 GB RAM, 1 core, 10 databases, 6 email accounts per domain on up to 3 email domains, no SSH.
- Unlimited: unlimited sites, 50 GB SSD, 3 GB RAM, 2 cores, 150 databases, unlimited email, no SSH.
- Cloud Startup: unlimited sites, 100 GB SSD, 4 GB RAM, 4 cores, 300 databases, unlimited email, SSH (a jailed shell, meaning limited to your account) and Node.js apps (web applications written in JavaScript).
Two things worth knowing before you choose:
- Year two costs more. On Premium that is US$83.99 more (from US$47.89 to US$131.88). Even so, renewing with annual payment (US$131.88) is cheaper than paying month to month for 12 months (US$143.88).
- If you outgrow a plan, you can move up. Message us on WhatsApp and we change your plan without moving your site: your files, databases and email stay where they are.
And a few plain limits: there is a single server, in Seattle (United States). The backup is daily and automatic, but only the most recent copy is kept, on the same server, so download a copy of your own from time to time. If you need root access (full control of the server), a VPS (a virtual server that you administer entirely yourself) will serve you better than any of these plans. If you are comparing with another provider, see QuimeraCloud vs Hostinger.
3. SSL: zero cost
SSL is the certificate that turns on the padlock and https on your site: it encrypts the connection between your visitor and your website. On every QuimeraCloud plan it is free (Let’s Encrypt) and renews itself, so for a site hosted with us you do not need to buy a separate certificate or remember to renew it.
4. Email on your domain
An address like contact@yourcompany.com is built on your domain, and the plan already includes it. Premium gives you 6 email accounts per domain, on up to 3 email domains (up to 18 accounts); Unlimited and Cloud Startup have unlimited email. Messages go through antispam (SpamAssassin) and antivirus (ClamAV). If you prefer an outside email service, that cost is set by that provider and is not in these numbers.
A worked example with real prices
A business site on the Premium plan paid annually, depending on the domain you pick:
| Item | With .com | With .com.bo | With .bo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domain, first year | US$20 | Bs 280 | Bs 980 |
| Premium hosting, year one | US$47.89 | US$47.89 | US$47.89 |
| SSL | included | included | included |
| Email on your domain | included | included | included |
| Year-one total | US$67.89 | US$47.89 + Bs 280 | US$47.89 + Bs 980 |
| Year two | US$156.88 (US$131.88 + US$25) | US$131.88 + Bs 280 | US$131.88 + Bs 980 |
The year-two math with a .com: US$131.88 Premium hosting + US$25 .com renewal = US$156.88. The figures in bolivianos are NIC Bolivia’s rate today: if it changes, the total changes. We do not add dollars to bolivianos because they are different currencies and the exchange rate varies.
What is not in these numbers
- Design and development of the site: separate, and it varies a lot with scope.
- Content and extras: text, photos, and paid themes or plugins if you decide to add them.
- Taxes and fees: we do not publish whether the total includes taxes, so confirm it on WhatsApp before you pay. Fees on purchases abroad are set by your bank.
How to pay from Bolivia
At QuimeraCloud you pay by credit or debit card through Stripe, in US$. If your card is Bolivian, confirm with your bank that it is enabled for purchases abroad. At NIC Bolivia, the system generates a debit note with the amount and the bank account to pay into.
Build your budget in 5 steps
- Pick the domain: a .com with us, or a .com.bo or .bo registered at nic.bo.
- Choose the plan by how many sites and what resources you need.
- Write down two totals: year one and year two, which is higher.
- Put the domain and hosting renewal dates in your calendar.
- Set aside a separate line for design and development.
When your budget is clear, compare the QuimeraCloud plans.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay for a .bo domain for several years at once?
Yes. According to the NIC Bolivia Help Center, each registration or renewal payment can cover a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 6. Paying ahead means one less renewal to remember, but check the current rate on nic.bo before you do.
How much does it cost to change the owner of a .bo domain?
NIC Bolivia says the new owner must create a user account and pay the fee as if registering the domain for the first time, even if the domain is still valid. The service is also interrupted while the change goes through. Keep this in mind if you are buying a site that already has a .bo domain.
Where do I set up email records (MX) for a .com.bo domain?
On the DNS server your domain points to, not at NIC Bolivia. NIC's system only registers the domain and delegates it to the DNS servers you name; MX, TXT and CNAME records are managed by that DNS server. With QuimeraCloud, those servers would be ns1.quimeracloud.com and ns2.quimeracloud.com.
Is paying for hosting annually cheaper than paying month to month?
Yes. On Premium, renewing with annual payment costs US$131.88 a year, against US$143.88 if you pay US$11.99 a month for 12 months. The first year on annual payment comes to US$47.89, because the launch price is US$3.99 a month.
What is support like if something goes wrong with my site?
Support is on WhatsApp (+591 773 14890) and is handled by a person on the Quimera team, 24/7. The server is also monitored every minute, and there is a daily backup you can restore or download from the panel.
